Abuse and Neglect


Goal 1: Persons with disabilities in institutional and community facilities will experience reduced abuse & neglect.
 
Objective 1: Investigate significant injuries or incidents that allegedly resulted from abuse/neglect in institutional or community facilities in selected areas. 
 
Objective 2: Investigate allegations of physical assault and denial of medications in prisons/jails. 

Objective 3:
 Monitor institutional or community facilities to ensure the residents' safety and protection of their civil rights. 

Objective 4:
 Using the gathered State and Federal standards of care and collected best practices, develop comprehensive report; from the report, create a summary (white paper) and distribute to Tennessee policymakers, department heads, and other Tennessee agencies working with individuals with mental illness and developmental disabilities. 
 
Objective 5: Gather data from facilities in which policies and procedures were developed or modified as a result of DLAC intervention to determine if incidents of abuse/neglect have been reduced within the facilities. 
 
Goal 2: To ensure the physical safety, financial well-being , and civil rights of beneficiaries of Social Security who are employed by their representative payee.
 
Objective 1: Monitor agencies identified by the Social Security Administration who serve both as the representative payee and the employer of Social Security beneficiaries and submit monitoring reports to the appropriate entities.
