DLAC Helps Deaf Individuals File Lawsuit PDF Print E-mail
DLAC helps deaf individuals sue medical facilities in Davidson County, Tennessee. The plaintiffs allege that defendants failed to provide sign language interpreters.

The first lawsuit represents five deaf individuals. All five say that Summit Medical Center (SMC) did not provide them with sign language interpreters.

The second lawsuit represents three deaf individuals. Two of these individuals also have other disabilities that influence the way they communicate.  They say that Summit Primary Care did not provide them with a sign language interpreter. One of the individuals says that because he needed an interpreter, Summit Primary Care stopped providing medical care.

Summit Medical Center and Summit Primary Care are not related companies.

These situations are not the only time someone who is deaf has been denied a sign language interpreter. People across Tennessee often call DLAC about similar problems. If you or someone you know has been denied a sign language interpreter or other communication assistance, or have experienced discrimination because of your disability, DLAC may be able to help. Please call DLAC at 1-800-342-1660 (voice or relay calls) or TTY 1-888-852-2852.
